8th September 2022 was a historical day when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away, unleashing 10 days of mourning around the entire world, yet also moving tributes to the life and service of a truly exceptional monarch. I had the honour to be awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for my Services to Sport on the 2018 New Year Honours List (page N13). The Investiture Ceremony took place in May at Buckingham Palace, carried out personally by Her Majesty The Queen, which was particularly special.
I was in the City of London at the time of Her Majesty's passing and visited Buckingham Palace to pay my personal tribute to a leader who has been and will remain an inspiration to me for her dedicated service and sense of duty to her citizens.
The sense of community amongst all visitors was reminiscent of the recent Platinum Jubilee, but even more so the London 2012 Olympic Games, where a feeling of wanting to support everyone and be proud of the way the country could come together and welcome the world. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II played a memorable role at the Opening Ceremony, underlining her sense of humour so appropriate to the occasion.
